The Government of South Australia, through the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure has prepared an Invitation for Expression of Interest to provide information to interested parties for the construction and operation of a suitable harbour at Port Bonython for the export of bulk minerals and commodities and to invite submissions from those interested in being selected to undertake the Project.
The Spencer Gulf Port Link Consortium has expressed an interest in being selected to undertake the Project.
The Spencer Gulf Port Link Consortium comprises Flinders Port Holdings, Leighton Contractors, Macquarie Capital, BIS Industrial Logistics and ARTC.
SGPL welcomes the announcement by Infrastructure Australia that the Bonython project has been added to its list of Priority projects and recent positive announcements by potential users. SGPL looks forward to moving forward with SA Government and users to enable the project to proceed in a timely manner, including achievement of all necessary environmental and planning approvals to ensure the development is progressed in a manner that meets the expectations of the South Australian community.

The Spencer Gulf Port Link consortium has been made aware of speculation in relation to the status of the Port Bonython Bulk Commodities Export Facility project. In response, Spencer Gulf Port Link advises that:
The feasibility study is yet to be completed and no conclusions have been reached
On completion of the feasibility study discussions will be held with government in order to define the appropriate next steps for the Project. It is currently envisaged that such discussions will commence during March 2009.
