Who will manage the dredge works?
Flinders Ports has appointed international dredging and marine specialist Boskalis to undertake dredging works to widen the Outer Harbor channel and swing basin.
Who is Boskalis?
Boskalis is a world-leading Netherlands-based public company which has more than 100 years of experience in hydraulic engineering, coastal protection and land reclamation. It operates in 90 countries across six continents.
What is their role?
Boskalis’ role is to conduct the dredge works under the approved Dredge Management Plan and licence conditions issued by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to widen the Outer Harbor channel and swing basin. Boskalis is a world-leader in dredge works and ensuring effects on the marine environment are minimised.
How will they ensure the licence conditions are met?
Boskalis will use state-of-the-art equipment and apply a suitable dredge methodology to minimise turbidity, loss of seagrass and impact on fauna. All works will comply with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approved Dredge Management Plan, which addresses conditions of the dredge licence. The dredge team will regularly report to the EPA and audits will be conducted throughout the project. For more details see the Dredge Management Plan.
