Maintenance Dredging – Inner and Outer Harbor

Background

Maintenance dredging is a routine operation that occurs every few years.

As part of Flinders Port Holdings’ responsibility to look after the Port’s operations and infrastructure, maintenance dredging takes place every 2 – 4 years to ensure the Inner and Outer Harbor can be used safely and to its full capabilities. Maintenance dredging clears the channels of sand and silts. Disposal of the dredge material will occur at Pelican Point and the dredge pond at Berth 20.

This dredging work does not involve the excavation of previously undisturbed areas of the sea or river bed. It is small in scale and only involves the clearing of areas that have previously been disturbed and dredged.
Maritime Constructions, a highly experienced and specialised operator, will be performing the dredging operations for Flinders Port Holdings.
